According to a Saudi newspaper, a Saudi court has ruled in favor of a woman whose husband viciously attacked her.
According to media reports, the husband attacked the woman with a sharp tool, inflicting wounds on her body and requiring surgery.
Assailant has been arrested and will go on trial soon.
According to Okaz newspaper, a Saudi lawyer argued the woman's case at the court that annulled her marriage contract.
As a result of Nessrin Al Ghamdi's efforts, the woman dubbed in the media "The Jeddah victim of domestic violence" was awarded custody of her eight children and SR5,200 in alimony.
"The annulment was based on a medical report which showed the wife had suffered grievous injuries at the hands of her husband, who is currently in custody," the lawyer told Okaz.
During the attack, the woman suffered swelling of her eyes, cuts on her eyebrows, bruises on her head, knees, face, and arms, as well as fractures in her arm, nose, face, right eye, and vertebrae.
Having been awarded immediate custody of her children, the woman will be responsible for finalizing procedures regarding them at different state and private institutions as well as embassies.
As police were alerted by a hospital in Jeddah about the arrival of a woman whose husband had attacked her, the case surfaced.
After surgery, the victim spent days in the intensive care unit.
