An Expat Worker Was Arrested For Tampering With Gas Pump Meters
Category: Crime News

A joint statement from three government agencies said expats caught tampering with gas pump meter readings will be deported and not permitted to return to the Kingdom.

After illegal practices were spotted at these stations and reported to the Ministry of Commerce by a number of consumers, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) inspected a number of gas stations.

The accuracy of gasoline dispensers was tested, and it was discovered that some workers had retrieved past gas pump meter readings and modified them.

Reports and videos posted on social media websites revealed that certain employees were tampering with gas pump meter readings, according to the statement.

For accounting purposes or in the case of complaints, the last ten readings from gas pump meters can be retrieved.

SASO's National Metrology Program (TAQYEES) will examine codifying this feature in coordination with gas pump manufacturers in order to protect the interests of customers.

SASO and the ministries of commerce and energy have also announced that inspections of specific gas stations in the Eastern Province and Jeddah Governorate are continuing to uncover violations.

Using the Commercial Violation App, at 1900, or through the ministry's website, the three government agencies reaffirmed their commitment to protecting consumers' rights.
