Dr. Mohammad Ali Al-Bar, a world renowned Islamic scholar, jurist, and physician, will interact with the Indian community on the topic of “Medical ethics in Islamic perspective” on Oct. 11 in Jeddah.

The Jeddah-based Goodwill Global Initiative (GGI) is holding the event, in association with Jeddah National Hospital (JNH), as part of its bimonthly talks series titled “IB(F)TIKAR: A Platform for Intellectual Discourse.” The program will be held at the conference hall of JNH from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

V.P Mohammed Ali, chairman and managing director of JNH, will inaugurate the session, which will focus on a wide variety of bioethical topics in the present day world. He will share with the audience the Islamic perspective of topics such as organ transplantation, embryology, brain death, stem cell research, artificial insemination, abortion, sperm banks, contraception, cloning, genetic problems and the Prophetic medicine, according to GGI President Dr. Ismail Maritheri, General Secretary Hassan Cheruppa and Program Chief Coordinator Musthafa Vakkaloor.

Al-Bar, a renowned Saudi Islamic medical expert, has been playing a leading role at International Islamic Fiqh Academy and several other organizations in the Muslim World in brainstorming bioethical topics in Islamic perspective. He has authored nearly 100 books, mainly on medical science and the Holy Qur’an.

An internal medicine consultant by profession with FRCP, Al-Bar is now serving as director of medical ethics at International Medical Center, Jeddah. Earlier, he worked as Islamic medicine advisor at King Abdulaziz University.
