14 Drowning Cases Reported In Saudi Arabia In A Week: Alarming Rise

After heavy rains lashed the kingdom over the past few days, Saudi Arabia has reported an alarming increase in drownings.

A total of 14 people have drowned in less than a week across the Kingdom, according to media reports.

Four Saudis have died in Al Hinakiyah governorate while trying to rescue their friend who fell into a hole. Tragically, the incident occurred while they were enjoying the weather in a valley.

Last Saturday, a Saudi female doctor and her friend drowned trying to rescue two girls from drowning off Jeddah beach.

In an attempt to save two girls, Dr. Afaf Felimban and her colleague Lina Tahar died at the National Guard Hospital in Riyadh.

On the Jeddah Corniche, the doctor and her friend saw two young women fighting for their lives as huge waves almost overwhelmed them. 

According to Dr. Mohammed Felimban, nephew of Dr. Afaf, his aunt arrived in Jeddah on Thursday to spend the weekend with family. Her funeral was attended by a large number of people, he said.

Her professional skills, dedication, and exemplary behavior with her patients and colleagues were also praised by the medical community following her death. The medical community mourned Dr. Afaf and spoke highly of her.

According to Dr. Suleiman Al Quwaifli, Afaf drowned while she was saving two youngsters from drowning with her friend Lina, as usual. All their family members deserve patience and solace from God. I supplicate God to accept them as martyrs."

On Tuesday, three children and one young man drowned in two separate accidents in the southern Najran region's Thar and Habouna governorates.

An investigation into the tragic incidents was ordered by Prince Jalawi bin Abdul Aziz bin Musaed, the Emir of Najran. After reviewing the details of the drowning incidents, he followed up.

A Saudi university professor also lost his life trying to save his son from drowning in Jeddah. A faculty member at Umm Al Qura University, Dr. Hussein Mohammad Al Habashi, was on a trip with his family when the accident occurred.
