The Interior Ministry Clarifies That Women Can Wear Any Color Veil For ID Photos
Category: Saudi Arabia

Saudi women wearing hijabs for their national identity cards are undergoing a controversy over the color of their veil (hijab). The controversy was resolved by the Agency of the Ministry of Interior for Civil Status.

For women to be able to use their national ID, it is not mandatory to wear a specific color veil in their personal photos. Civil Status' Customer Care department responded to a query through its Twitter account.

During the process of obtaining a Saudi national identity card, the agency let a Saudi woman wear any color she chose. An ID card can be issued in a maximum of 14 days, according to the agency.

Upon arrival at the office, the Civil Status Agency will send the customer a text message, and the ID card will be issued within 14 days of receiving it.

Upon receiving the new national identification card, the old one must be surrendered and the old identity card activated.

According to the agency, the personal photo would be changed in the event of a national identity renewal. The national identity can be renewed 180 days before its expiration date, the agency sources said.
