Taxi fares within cities of Saudi Arabia increased by 10 Riyals, the minimum charge for every trip in a taxi with a capacity of four passengers, according to the Transport General Authority (TGA).
In accordance with the new pricing rules, every additional kilometer on a basic fare will cost 2.1 Riyals instead of 1.8 Riyals, or a 16.67% increase.
There has also been a 12.5% increase to the waiting charge per minute; new fares are 0.9 riyals, rather than 0.8 riyals. If the vehicle speed is less than 20 km per hour, the same fares can be charged.
In taxis with a capacity of 5 or more passengers, the opening fare has risen by 16.36% to 6.4 riyals instead of 5.5 riyals, for a total increase of 21.67%, making the new price to 7.3 riyals instead of 6 riyals.
Saudi Gazette reports that the waiting charge has been increased by 22.22%, to 1.1 riyals instead of 0.9 riyals, as confirmed by the Transport General Authority in its statement.
