Halat Ammar Customs of the northwestern borders foiled an attempt to smuggle cash worth SR251,200 ($66,976) and 75,000 SACTON air rifle rounds into the Kingdom.
The cash and ammunition were found hidden in two vehicles.
According to Saudi law, nobody coming into the Kingdom or going abroad carrying with him cash or precious metals exceeding SR60,000 must make a declaration of assets.
Saudi Customs regularly thwart attempts to smuggle illegal drugs into the Kingdom.
Last week, Halat Ammar Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle 35,861 Alprazolam tablets hidden in a passenger bus. The general director of the Halat Ammar Customs, Khalid Al-Rumaih, said the pills were hidden between the bus’ fuel tank and the backup frame wrapped in black bags.
On July 31, officials oiled attempts to smuggle contraband into the Kingdom via King Abdul Aziz International Airport.
The illegal substances seized included 114,928 of Captagon and Tramadol tablets, in addition to 1,467 kg of narcotics.
