In August, Saudi Arabia’s private sector saw a rise of 37,009 local employees, a 6.94 per cent increase from the 34,606 new hires in July. This surge, based on official data, underscores the country’s commitment to fostering local talent through strategic government initiatives.

Growth in Private Sector Workforce

The National Labour Observatory revealed that the total workforce in the private sector grew to 11,572,408 in August, marking a 0.86 per cent increase from July’s 11,473,341. This rise is seen as a positive step toward achieving the objectives outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.

Focus on National Employment

Saudi nationals now constitute 2,369,828 of the workforce, with 972,682 women and 1,397,146 men. The uptick in female participation reflects the success of government efforts to boost gender inclusivity in the workforce, which is aligned with the goals of Vision 2030.

Role of Expat Workers in the Saudi Economy

Expatriates remain an essential component of the workforce, making up 9,202,580 workers, including 8,812,758 men and 389,822 women. Despite the push for Saudisation, foreign workers continue to support sectors that demand specialized skills.

Success of the Tawteen Program

The increase in local hires and overall workforce growth underscores the effectiveness of the Tawteen Program, which encourages the recruitment and training of Saudi nationals in the private sector.

Private Sector Empowerment and Economic Ambitions

Saudi Arabia’s private sector is expected to play a pivotal role in the kingdom’s future economic growth, as outlined in Vision 2030. By promoting Saudisation and enhancing the skills of the national workforce, the kingdom aims to reduce reliance on oil and develop a diverse, sustainable economy.
