Saudi Arabia has implemented a new mechanism to review taxi fares through transport applications. This initiative, set forth by the Transport General Authority (TGA) or the transport app operators, requires approval from the Minister of Transport and Logistics. The aim is to ensure a fair balance between passengers and service providers in the taxi sector.
Official Amendment for Taxi Fare Regulation
The official gazette, Umm Al-Qura, recently published an amendment to the fare regulation policy. This amendment, issued by Minister of Transport and Logistics Saleh Al-Jasser, modifies paragraph 30 of Chapter Six, which addresses public transportation fare policies in Saudi Arabia. The update aims to foster a balanced approach for both taxi operators and customers.
Review and Approval Mechanism for Fare Proposals
According to the new policy, the Transport General Authority will propose taxi fares, which will then be submitted to the Minister for approval. A similar mechanism applies to fare suggestions for taxi services provided via electronic applications. The app operators propose the fare, which undergoes review and approval by the relevant authorities to ensure compliance and fairness.
Mandatory Compliance for Taxi Operators and App-Based Services
All licensed operators, as well as electronic taxi service providers, are required to adhere to the approved fare rates. They must also ensure the updated fare information is accessible to the public, enabling transparency and accountability within the sector.
