Saudi authorities have said employers are responsible for ensuring that expatriate workers issued a final-exit visa leave the kingdom.
Employer's Responsibility
The Saudi General Directorate of Passports has emphasized that it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that an expatriate worker leaves the country after being issued a final-exit visa.
This responsibility extends beyond merely obtaining the visa for the employee.
If the employer is unaware of the employee's whereabouts in the kingdom after the final-exit visa is issued, the employer must apply to cancel the visa and report the employee’s absence to the authorities, according to the directorate.
Recent Labour Reforms
Saudi Arabia is home to a large community of expatriate workers. In recent years, the kingdom has introduced several labour reforms to make its job market more attractive and competitive.
Earlier this month, the Saudi government approved several significant labour changes aimed at preserving contractual rights.
One of the key changes is the notice period for terminating an employment contract of indefinite duration, now set at 30 days if the notice is given by the worker and 60 days if given by the employer.
