Saudi Arabia Approves Work From Home In Government Sector
Category: Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) has authorized the implementation of work-from-home policies in the public sector.

The ministry has made adjustments and additions to the executive regulations of the Labor Law that govern civil service employment.

The acceptance of telework as a new mode of work in the government sector by the ministry is part of a larger effort to diversify and ensure employment continuity in a variety of work situations.

Everything connected to remote working at a government body will be considered by an MHRSD committee. Employees will be able to carry out their duties and obligations outside of the office utilizing electronic and smart systems, as well as information technology.

On the basis of proposals from the telework committee, the ministry will approve tasks that can be handled online. Furthermore, government agencies can suggest specific jobs that can be managed remotely and submit them to the telework committee.

MHRSD's teleworking efforts focus on women's labor market involvement, as well as providing chances for Saudis in rural regions and competent people with special needs.

Scholarship students are also covered by the revisions.

A scholarship student must work for the organization that funded him or her for study for a term equal to the duration of the scholarship after the completion of their education, according to the amendment. If a student fails to do so or does not finish the specified work period, they will be held accountable during the scholarship period.

If the student works for another government body supported by the state's general budget, the competent minister may grant the student an exemption from working for a government entity for the aforementioned term. If the government body is not covered by the state's general budget, the exemption period will be limited to half of that time.

The tuition expenses will be covered by the government organization with whom the scholarship student is associated. If the student wishes, he or she may cover the fees when official consent is included in the dispatch decision.

At the time of appointment, the employee's age must be provided, and it must be based on the Gregorian calendar in terms of day, month, and year, as reflected on the person's official document. If this information is not included on the official document, the Gregorian date will be calculated using the first day of the Hijri month of Rajab.
