The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) in Saudi Arabia has launched a new digital service called “Interruption from Work” through the national unified recruitment platform Musaned.
The service is part of ongoing initiatives aimed at improving contractual relationships in the domestic labor sector. It enables individual employers to legally terminate a domestic worker’s contract if the worker stops reporting to work, while ensuring clear procedures and protecting the rights of both parties.
What the Interruption from Work Service in Musaned Offers
The new Musaned service provides employers with two primary options:
- Contract termination due to interruption from work
- Labor mobility (transfer) service
Both options are implemented in accordance with official Saudi labor regulations, ensuring fairness and transparency between employers and domestic workers.
Rules if the Worker Has Been in Saudi Arabia for Less Than Two Years
If a domestic worker stops working within the first two years of entering the Kingdom and the contract is terminated:
- The worker must permanently leave Saudi Arabia within 60 days.
- If the worker fails to leave within this period, they will be considered in violation of residency and labor laws.
Rules if the Worker Has Been in Saudi Arabia for More Than Two Years
If the domestic worker has resided in the Kingdom for more than two years:
- The worker must either permanently exit the country or transfer to a new employer.
- This process must be completed within 60 days from the interruption date.
- If the worker’s status is not corrected within 60 days, they will be officially classified as Absent From Work and in violation of regulations.
Purpose of the New Musaned Service
The “Interruption from Work” service is part of broader reforms to regulate the recruitment sector and enhance contract management procedures in Saudi Arabia.
The initiative aims to:
- Improve service quality
- Increase compliance with labor regulations
- Strengthen transparency in contractual processes
- Protect the rights of employers and domestic workers
Overall, the new Musaned feature makes contract termination and labor mobility processes clearer, faster, and legally secure for all parties involved.
