Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman has officially launched the Saudi Architecture Characters Map, showcasing 19 distinctive architectural styles reflecting the Kingdom’s rich cultural and geographical heritage. This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to modernize urban landscapes while preserving traditional designs.

Saudi Architecture: A Blend of Heritage and Modernity

As the chairman of the Supreme Committee for Saudi Architectural Design Guidelines, the Crown Prince emphasized the importance of sustainable urban planning. He highlighted that Saudi Architecture integrates local traditions into contemporary designs, ensuring harmony between history and modernity.

Economic and Social Impact of Saudi Architecture

The initiative is expected to contribute over SR8 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2030 and generate 34,000 job opportunities in engineering, construction, and urban development.

Key Architectural Styles in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Architecture Characters Map identifies 19 architectural styles, including:

  • Central Najdi
  • Northern Najdi
  • Tabuk Coast
  • Madinah Rural
  • Hejazi Coast
  • Aseer Escarpment
  • Najran
  • Al-Ahsa Oasis
  • And more...

Implementation Strategy

The initiative will roll out in phases, starting with Al-Ahsa, Taif, Makkah, and Abha. Initial applications will target major projects, government buildings, and commercial structures.

Support for Developers and Designers

To ensure smooth implementation, architectural design studios will provide engineering guidelines, training workshops, and skill development programs. The goal is to maintain high sustainability and quality standards.
