South Sudan Police arrested a cow for brutally killing a 12-year-old boy, local media reported.
The owner has also been arrested, according to reports. The cow is said to have attacked the boy near a farm in Lakes State, which led to his death.
The cow is currently being held at the Rumbek County Police Station, police spokesman Elijah Mabor said. After the boy died, the cow was taken to a hospital, where an autopsy was performed.
The cow is expected to spend at least a year in jail. The arrest of an animal for killing humans is not the first in Sudan. In South Sudan, a ram was sentenced to three years in prison for allegedly attacking and headbutting a woman to death.
A local court in Rumbek city, South Sudan, has also ordered the ram owner to give the family of the victim five cows as compensation.
Pets that kill a person are entitled to compensation under the customary law of the Lakes State.
