7 Jawazat Travel Rules Every Saudi Resident MUST Follow Before Leaving The Kingdom (2025 Guide)
Category: Saudi Arabia

The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has issued seven mandatory travel rules that every Saudi resident must follow before traveling abroad. These rules cover passport validity, travel permits, GCC requirements, and acceptable identity documents.

1. Passport Validity Requirements

Jawazat confirmed that your passport must meet the following validity requirements before you travel:

  • More than 3 months validity for travel to Arab countries.
  • More than 6 months validity for travel to all other countries.

For more guidance on visa and passport rules, see the guide on verifying your visa status through Muqeem.

2. Obtain All Required Travel Permits

Some travelers—such as dependents, military employees, or specific professions—may require a travel permit. Make sure permits are issued and approved before departure.

3. Ensure Travel Documents Are Undamaged

Your passport must be:

  • Free of tears or damage
  • Clear and readable
  • Free of missing pages

Any damaged passport could result in denied boarding or refusal at immigration checkpoints.

4. Check Entry Requirements of Your Destination Country

Jawazat advised all travelers to verify the following before traveling:

  • Visa requirements
  • Vaccination or health regulations
  • Return ticket rules
  • Financial proof requirements

5. National ID Rules for GCC Travel

Saudi citizens traveling to GCC countries must ensure their national ID card:

  • Is valid for at least 3 months
  • Is the original physical card (not digital)

The national ID is valid **only** for travel within GCC countries.

6. Digital Documents Are Not Accepted for International Travel

Jawazat clarified that digital versions of IDs in Absher or Tawakkalna cannot be used for international travel. Travelers must carry original physical documents.

7. The Family Registry Cannot Be Used for Travel

Jawazat emphasized that the family registry is a domestic document meant only to prove dependents inside Saudi Arabia. It cannot be used for international travel.
