State statistics said Saudi Arabia's population declined by 2.6% in mid-2021, from 35 million in the same period last year to 34.1 million in mid-2021.
According to Saudi news portal Sabq, the General Authority for Statistics stated that the main cause for the demographic decline is a decline of 8.6 per cent in non-Saudi population as many expatriates left the kingdom during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thus, foreigners made up 36.4% of Saudi Arabia's population in mid-2021 as opposed to 38.8% in mid-2020.
In mid-2021, the Saudi population increased by 1.2%. According to the latest demographic statistics, 56.8% of the kingdom's population is male, or 19.4 million people.
