Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud pardoned and released six Pakistani nationals who had been arrested during Ramadan.

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Shareef, who visited the Kingdom earlier this week, requested this pardon.

- All those prisoners who were arrested by the Saudi police for insulting a delegation of the Pakistan government at Prophet's Mosque in Madina earlier this year, as they assaulted a Pakistani woman and her companions with offensive words in the courtyards of Prophet's Mosque in Madina.

Police arrested them in April for abusing and insulting federal ministers of information and narcotics control, Marriym Aurangzeb and Shahzain Bugti.

The act was carried out by supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party who chanted slogans against the 2 ministers and were later arrested for violating the sanctity of the place and putting visitors and worshippers in danger.

Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Saudi King and Crown Prince for announcing the release of all Pakistani prisoners arrested by the police during this incident.
