Industrial sector in Saudi Arabia has replaced 1900 expatriate workers with 500 Saudi nationals in an ongoing drive of Saudization, The Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources said the sector had been witnessing positive results.
Bandar Bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, The Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources revealed that even after laying off expatriate workers and hiring Saudi nationals the industrial sector had been wintnessing positive results in July.
- He thanked Allah the Almighty and then continued government support for the economic sectors in general, In his tweet he stated, The industrial sector was able to hire 471 Saudi citizens and lay off 1904 expats during July despite the coronavirus pandemic.
- Initiatives offered by the Saudi government helped in attracting investment into the sector worth 1.15 billion Saudi riyals including the job opportunities to Saudis, As per the data issued by the Ministry showing the results and statistics of Saudi industry last month.
- The Corona virus pandemic has led to changes within industries all over the Gulf, which have long relied on expat workers specially from South Asian countries like Pakistan, Around 87% of all Pakistani nationals working abroad lived and worked in Saudi Arabia and UAE last year.
- Among those changes are predictions that around 1.2 million expat workers may leave Saudi Arabia this year due to the job loss due to pandemic, More job losses are expected throughout the gulf.
