Police in Riyadh have arrested six expatriates involved in a public fight, marking the latest reported incident of public violence in Saudi Arabia.
Details of the Incident
The six offenders, all Pakistani residents in Saudi Arabia, were seen fighting in a video clip that circulated online. Police confirmed that the fight was due to a dispute among the individuals.
Following their arrest, police released a photo of the suspects. The authorities confirmed that legal procedures had been initiated, and the offenders were referred to public prosecution.
Violation of Anti-Cybercrime Law
Authorities are actively searching for the individual who filmed and posted the video, as the act violates the kingdom's anti-cybercrime law.
Previous Cases of Public Violence
Saudi authorities have intensified efforts to curb public violence and law-breaking incidents. In recent months, several offenders have been arrested in similar cases:
- Earlier this month, police arrested eight individuals involved in two separate incidents of public violence.
- Seven of them, identified as Pakistani and Afghan nationals, were detained after appearing in a video fighting due to an unspecified dispute in Riyadh.
- In another case, a Saudi citizen was arrested in Al Muzahmeya for attacking another individual in public over a personal dispute.
Previous Arrests of Expatriates
In September, police detained 12 expatriates implicated in public violence. Similarly, in July, police arrested 11 expatriates for obstructing traffic in Riyadh and recording the incident online. The offenders included 10 Bangladeshis, who were accused of disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to passers-by.
One additional suspect was arrested for filming the act, also violating the kingdom’s anti-cybercrime law.
