Saudi Arabia: Nine Arrested In Riyadh For Theft And Vandalism

Saudi police reported the arrest of eight expatriates and a Saudi man in Riyadh for stealing a vehicle used for transporting goods and seizing its merchandise.

The eight expatriates are of Indian, Pakistani, and Yemeni nationalities. Police did not specify the date of the crime.

In a separate incident, three Indian residents were arrested in Riyadh for damaging an ATM machine. Disciplinary procedures were taken against the suspects, and they were referred to public prosecution.

Recently, Saudi authorities have made several arrests related to law-breaking and violence. Earlier this month, Saudi police arrested 14 expatriates in Riyadh for stealing copper cables worth over SR8 million. The suspects, 12 Pakistanis and two Afghans, stole cables from construction sites and warehouses using stolen vehicles and sold the items at scrap outlets.

Last month, a Turkish expatriate was arrested for arson in Mecca after setting two parked cars on fire. In May, police arrested several Bangladeshi expatriates for public violence in Riyadh, following a video clip showing them quarrelling in public.

In October, Riyadh police arrested individuals involved in a car hit-and-shooting incident in Al Kharj governorate. The violence, due to an unspecified dispute, resulted in two deaths and two injuries.
