In response to a recent Cabinet decision, the Public Transport Authority (PTA) has stopped importing trucks that have an operational life of more than 5 years. The ban will take effect on May 5, 2022.
A spokesperson confirmed that the decision will apply to all heavy transport trucks designed for transporting goods whose total weight exceeds 3.5 tons, including locomotives, trailers and semi-trailers. The age is calculated from January 1 of the manufacture year.
By implementing the decision, PTA stated that it will increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the fleet and achieve the strategic objectives of protecting the environment, reducing carbon emissions and pollution, as well as lowering the rate of fuel consumption, along with operating and maintenance costs.
