Saudi Arabia Amends Flexible Work Regulation To Increase Monthly Hours To 160
Category: Saudi Arabia

Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Eng. Ahmed Al-Rajhi has issued a decision to amend the Flexible Work Regulation, raising the number of working hours for a flexible Saudi worker to 160 hours per month in a single facility. The new amendments include changes to Clause 2 of Article 27 of the Executive Regulations of the Labor Law.

The amendments also stipulate that upon completion of 160 hours of flexible work by an employee or a group of employees, a full point will be calculated for the facility under the Nitaqat Saudization Program. Since the launch of this program, over 35,000 Saudi men and women have benefited from the flexible work system.

These amendments are part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to review labor market regulations to support the stability and growth of establishments, protect workers' rights, and enhance the attractiveness and flexibility of the labor market.

The ministry emphasizes its commitment to creating job opportunities for job seekers and providing flexible work options for Saudi workers looking to increase their income. The regulation ensures that wages are calculated on an hourly basis, preserving the rights of both parties, and raising safety and credibility standards by documenting employment contracts electronically via the flexible work platform.

Flexible Work Regulation offers significant benefits for both establishments and individuals, such as preparing jobseekers for the labor market, allowing them to practice essential professional skills, and reducing recruitment costs.

This initiative is part of the ministry’s broader program to empower Saudi men and women seeking additional hourly work. The flexible work system contracts allow companies to hire individuals for specific hours, streamlining the contractual process between employers and employees. Only Saudi citizens are eligible for this system, and it is not applicable in the government and military sectors.
