Residents of Kandara District here celebrated Eid Al-Fitr on Monday with a variety of cultural programs. Children wore colorful new dresses to mark the happy occasion. A large number of people including expatriates turned up to enjoy the festivities.

The program started with children’s songs welcoming Eid Al-Fitr. There were different programs to bring happiness on the faces of children including competitions, drawings, coloring and cartoon shows in addition to lucky draws to select winners of gifts.

“Every child who took part in the festival was given a gift that suited his/her age,” said an organizer while speaking to Al-Madina Arabic daily.

Families were also given gifts to encourage them to take part in such Eid programs that are held annually.

Mohammed Baaqaba, supervisor of the festival, said: “We are holding this Eid festival for the sixth consecutive year in Kandara and it’s organized with fanfare to bring happiness to the minds and faces of people living in the district, especially women and children.”

He said Eidiya gifts were given out to children as well as men and women in the form of cash and valuable prizes. “Children were given an opportunity to take photos with famous cartoon characters. We also conducted lucky draws to distribute gifts,” he added.

He said young men played an important role in organizing the program in an impressive manner, volunteering their services. He commended the support of Sheikh Abdullah Sanaan, imam and khateeb of Al-Rajhi Mosque in the district who gave a speech on behalf of the district’s residents.

“The whole festival venue was decorated with colorful balloons. Residents and visitors were happy and they took several pictures of the event,” Baaqaba told the Arabic daily.
