Officials in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday revealed more details about the arrest of terror suspect Mohammed Hussein Al-Ammar.
He was one of nine men on a “most-wanted” list, compiled in 2016,who were accused of targeting the public, security officers, and security and economic facilities in the Eastern Province.
“(The) security forces at the Presidency of State Security identified on Tuesday (Jan. 7) a terrorist hideout in Al-Bahari district of Qatif, Eastern Province,” the spokesperson said.
“Inside this hideout was the wanted person (Al-Ammar), who is involved in many terrorist crimes. When called upon to surrender, he began shooting at security officers.” Al-Ammar was captured alive and arrested, and no residents, passers-by or security officers were injured.
“He was found in possession of various weapons, including a Molotov cocktail, a machine gun, two Glock pistols, 464 rounds of machine-gun ammunition, 160 live pistol cartridges, five pistol magazines, 13 machine gun magazines and a knife, and an amount of cash,” the spokesperson said.
Of the remaining eight suspects on the 2016 most-wanted list, five have been killed and three remain free. The Presidency of State Security renewed its call for them to surrender, and appealed for anyone with information about the men, or suspected terrorist activities, to call the security communications center on 990.
