In a distressing incident, the Eastern Province police have taken action against a mother accused of torturing her daughter. The case came to light when a video depicting the abuse went viral on social media, prompting the police to intervene.
The police spokesperson for the Eastern Province revealed that they swiftly responded to the circulated video, which showed a child subjected to violence and physical abuse by her mother. Working in conjunction with the Family Protection Unit of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the police conducted a thorough investigation. Subsequently, they referred the case to the Public Prosecution after completing all the necessary legal procedures.
The police spokesperson urged the public to report any cases of child abuse by dialing 1919. Such reports enable specialized committees to take immediate measures to safeguard children and bring perpetrators to justice.
