Saudi Arabia will celebrate Flag Day on March 11 every year, according to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
The Saudi Press Agency reported that the Monarch issued a royal decree honoring the Kingdom's National Flag on Wednesday.
As part of his directive to celebrate Flag Day, King Salman pointed out that King Abdul Aziz endorsed the flag in its current form on the 27th of Dhul Hijjah 1355 AH, or March 11, 1937 AD. Symbolizing monotheism, justice, strength, development, and prosperity, it flutters with its great connotations today.
King Salman explained that this decision was taken on the basis of the value of the national flag throughout the history of the Saudi state since its founding in 1139 AH, or 1727 AD.
The Islamic declaration of faith in the middle symbolizes the message of peace and the religion of Islam upon which this blessed state was founded, while the sword represents strength, dignity, wisdom, and status.
As a symbol of the country's unification campaigns waged by the Saudi state for nearly three centuries, the flag has been a symbol of pride and elegance for its citizens," the King said, emphasizing how important the flag is as a symbol of the state, its strength and sovereignty, as well as of national unity, cohesion, and coalition.
According to the King, the decision was made after reviewing the Kingdom's Basic Law of Governance and Flag Law.
