Women convicted of stunt driving will face hefty fines and jail terms, according to Okaz newspaper.

A woman found in breach of the law for the first time would be fined SR20,000 and have her car impounded for 15 days.

The violator will also stand trial before a special court which will decide whether to put her in jail.

Under the amended article 69 of the law on traffic, stunt driving incurs hefty fines, impounding of the car and even a jail term.

If the offence is repeated, the car will be impounded for a month, while the violator will be fined SR40,000 and will stand trial.

Violators will be fined SR60,000 in case they break the law for the third time, in addition to impounding of the car and court case.

Saudi women aged 13 to 30 would be held at a female-only care centre in case they break the law banning reckless driving.

Non-Saudi female drivers who break traffic laws would be held in women-only prisons pending legal measures.

A royal order scrapping the ban on women’s driving will be lifted officially on June 24.
