Crescent Moon Sighting Signals End of Ramadan and Arrival of Eid Al Fitr 2023

Introduction: The crescent moon, which signifies the conclusion of the sacred month of Ramadan, was observed in Saudi Arabia on Thursday evening, as reported by local news sources. Consequently, the first day of Eid Al Fitr 2023 falls on Friday, April 21, also marking the commencement of the Islamic calendar month of Shawwal.

Eid Al Fitr Holiday Dates and Duration Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced that the Eid Al Fitr holiday will commence on Friday, April 21, lasting for four days. Regular working hours for private and non-profit sectors in the Kingdom will resume from Tuesday, April 25.

Moon-Sighting Committee's Invitation The Saudi moon-sighting committee had encouraged all Muslims to attempt sighting the moon on the evening of Ramadan 29 (Thursday). The duration of Islamic months can be either 29 or 30 days, contingent upon when the moon is observed. As the crescent moon was sighted on Thursday, the holy month of Ramadan spanned 29 days this year.
