Saudi news outlets reported that prominent Saudi author Abdullah Al Joaithin had passed away after a long battle with illness. He was 72 years old.
As a high school student in Riyadh, Al Joaithin started writing for the radio. A variety of daily and weekly programmes were written by him for the Riyadh and Jeddah radio stations for 25 years.
In Saudi Arabia and abroad, he published articles in newspapers and magazines. Additionally, he wrote more than 50 books, mostly about social issues.
Majid Al Qasabi, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Media, paid tribute to the writer saying he has left behind a “big cultural and media legacy”.
According to Saudi media, Al Joaithin will be buried Thursday afternoon after a special Islamic death prayer is offered for him in a mosque in Riyadh.
