On Wednesday, local media reported that a Saudi man recorded an audio threat calling for an attack on the kingdom's embassy in Beirut.
Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi, who is also head of the Central Internal Security Council, called on the Internal Security Forces to investigate and arrest those involved. He ordered the matter dealt with as quickly as possible.
In addition, Mawlawi requested the General Directorate of Public Security to let him know when people found to be involved are entering and leaving Lebanon. He stressed that the statement is in the interest of Lebanon, its security, safety, and good relations with brotherly nations, particularly Saudi Arabia.
In a tweet, Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Al Bukhari said: "Terrorism is the offspring of extremism." Its roots and seeds begin feeding on the frustrated mind.”
Lebanese politicians and analysts warned of threats against the Saudi embassy through Al Bukhari's Twitter account. They called on the Lebanese security services to secure and protect the embassy and take the necessary measures to verify the seriousness of such threats.
While Fouad Makhzoumi, a Lebanese MP, warned that “as a result of the circulated reports of a terrorist attack on the Saudi embassy, security agencies must remain alert and take immediate action to follow up and verify that the information is accurate in order to prevent a human catastrophe.”
Makhzoumi added, "The person threatening is known by name and identity, so all security agencies must unite to arrest him."
