1018 female volunteers have been approved by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques to serve in the Grand Mosque during Ramadan.
Through the National Platform for Voluntary Work, run by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD), the women were recruited. In addition to translation, they drive electric vehicles for the elderly and provide other mobility services.
Bayan Al-Hadhali, director of the Department of Social Services and Women's Voluntary Work at the Grand Mosque, commented: "Volunteers gain cultural and linguistic skills by assisting female visitors to the holy mosque. The volunteer program reflects the wise leadership's desire to serve the pilgrims of the Grand Mosque according to the highest quality standards."
According to Al-Hudhali, the Saudi Vision 2030 encourages women working at the Grand Mosque to take advantage of all their resources, as well as their scientific and professional abilities, to serve pilgrims and visitors. The aim is to establish local and international leadership in the field of volunteers, and to make access to worship easier for men and women.
According to her, the number of charities participating in the project increased to 14 during Ramadan, including both government and women's charities. As a result, the Grand Mosque has reached its maximum capacity.
The Grand Mosque is staffed by volunteers 24 hours a day, across four shifts
