Among the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) released by the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has jumped ten places to 33rd place globally, a significant improvement.

Ahmed bin Aqeel Al-Khatib, the Tourism Minister, expressed his pride in this result, pointing out the unending support of the country's leadership for the industry.

Al-Khatib noted that the Saudi Crown Prince maintains direct follow-up on the tourism sector, providing all the opportunities, and this was a factor that helped us implement a number of our initiatives for the goals defined in the national tourism development strategy.

He noted that efforts are being made so that Saudi Arabia becomes one of the most important tourist destinations, and this is supported by several mega projects, the continual improvement of tourist destinations and the genuine interest of creating an unforgettable visitor experience.

Based on the index, the improvement included all five main polls in addition to 12 sub-polls, allowing the Kingdom to become the second most advanced country in the Middle East and North Africa. Additionally, the Kingdom came among the top ten countries in three polls, ranking first in terms of demand pressure, the extent of the sector's economic impact, and its quality in the economy.

In addition, the Kingdom ranks 9th globally in terms of travel and tourism priority. Ranks 10th on this axis, an indicator of how well policies are supported by the business environment, which measures the extent to which policies are prioritized at the local level by the public and private sectors.

In 2019, Saudi Arabia opened its doors to tourism, and the country has resumed reception of tourists as part of steps to complete the recovery that began with the resumption of local tourism last year, and crowned by receiving tourists from diverse nations after easing precautionary restrictions related to Corona virus.

Saudi Arabia worked on translating its national tourism strategy, expanding tourist destinations, attracting the most prestigious international hotels, and achieving the Saudi Vision 2030 objectives.

The Kingdom achieved a 34% increase in the number of domestic tourism trips compared to 2019, which is the result of the Kingdom's serious investment in the tourism sector, as well as offering facilities for doing business and investing in cooperation with all government sectors, including the National Competitiveness Center and the General Authority for Statistics.

The Travel and Tourism Development Index is an updated and expanded version of the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index published by the World Economic Forum.
