Upon the request of GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, the Arab Coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen has halted military operations in Yemen to ensure success of GCC-sponsored consultations and to create a positive environment for peacemaking efforts during Ramadan.
The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition announces a cessation of military operations in Yemen beginning at (0600) Wednesday, March. This follows a request made by the GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf for a cessation of military operations in conjunction with the launch of Yemeni-Yemeni consultations. following Al-Hajraf's request," the Coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen's spokesperson Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki said in an official statement.
The Coalition supports all endeavors and efforts to achieve a comprehensive, sustainable resolution to the Yemeni conflict and achieve stability and security in the brotherly nation of Yemen.
It falls within the context of international efforts and initiatives championed by the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen and the Saudi initiative to reach a comprehensive political settlement of the Yemeni conflict."
Joint Forces Command will abide by this ceasefire and take all necessary steps to ensure its success, as well as create an atmosphere conducive to successful consultations and for the Holy Month of Ramadan to make peace and end the conflict.
The Joint Forces Command of the coalition reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the legitimate government of Yemen in both its political and military positions and actions.
According to Al-Malki, the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition will always stand by the Yemeni people to fulfill their aspirations, to build a nation, and to achieve their security and prosperity.
Prior to this, Al-Hajraf called on the Arab Coalition to support Yemen's legitimacy and all Yemeni parties involved to stop military operations in Yemen.
The appeal reflects the keenness of the leaders and people of the Gulf Cooperation Council to achieve peace and stability in Yemen. Al-Hajraf's statement coincides with the beginning of Yemeni-Yemeni consultations under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council, days before the start of Ramadan.
Al-Hajraf extended an invitation to Houthis to participate in consultations with all other Yemeni parties, giving priority to Yemen's interests and alleviating Yemen's suffering.
