In a proactive measure, educational authorities in central Saudi Arabia have decided to temporarily suspend classes in six schools and transition to online teaching following the emergence of a seasonal flu viral infection among students and teachers. The goal is to safeguard the well-being of the school community.

The suspension, which went into effect on Tuesday, was initiated by the education department in Al Mithnab governorate, which falls under the Al Qassim region. The decision followed a notification from local health authorities in Northern Kharma regarding the increased cases of seasonal flu viral infections among school attendees.

While classes are temporarily suspended, the affected schools are undergoing a thorough sterilization process. In-person classes are scheduled to resume on Sunday to ensure a safe learning environment.

It's important to note that the seasonal nature of the virus prompted this transition to online teaching, as a significant increase in infection cases was recorded during the initial days.

Health authorities in Al Qassim have reassured that the viral infection, while impacting several individuals, is a seasonal occurrence and does not pose a major cause for concern.

This proactive step follows the return of more than 6 million students to their schools across Saudi Arabia at the end of the summer break.

The Saudi Arabian academic year is organized into three semesters, spanning 38 weeks, and incorporates various holiday periods, including a substantial 68-day summer break.

The first semester extends until November 16, with the second semester commencing ten days later and concluding on February 22. The third semester is slated to begin on March 3 and wrap up on June 10.

The decision to temporarily suspend classes demonstrates a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students and educators, with hygiene protocols being diligently followed to enable a smooth return to normal classes.
