After news of alleged COVID parties in the US where people were 'deliberately' getting infected comes the following case of a similar COVID-19 party where the winner takes all.
Students in Alabama, U.S., are reportedly throwing ‘coronavirus parties’ and whoever gets infected first wins the prize money.
Unlike the previous alleged parties the ones in Alabama have been confirmed by a councillor from Tuscaloosa, a city in the state
The students have intentionally been inviting already infected COVID-19 patients so they can infect others.
Sonya McKinstry, the Tuscaloosa City Councillor, told officials that students pool the money in a pot and the first person to be confirmed infected gets the amount.
"They put money in a pot and they try to get COVID. Whoever gets COVID first gets the pot. It makes no sense. We're trying to break up any parties that we know of. It's nonsense”,she told ABC News.
She further said, "But I think when you're dealing with the mind frame of people who are intentionally doing stuff like that and they're spreading it intentionally, how can you truly fight something that people are constantly trying to promote?"
There is no information on whether any action has been taken against the students yet or not.
A section of people in the US have not been taking the virus seriously since the beginning of the outbreak in the country. Large protests where people turned up with guns demanding that the lockdown be lifted were held about two months ago.
