The Saudi Ministry of Education decided to expel “intellectually violating” teachers, in a move that has sparked widespread controversy in the kingdom.

The decision was made by Education Minister Hamad Al-Sheikh, in a statement reported by local media, including “Saudi News” on Twitter, Friday.

The Saudi minister gave education directors in the regions of the Kingdom wide powers, to take a decision to “immediately deport” school workers who had “intellectual breaches.”

He explained that the deportees will be assigned to administrative work outside the schools temporarily, until the case is decided, according to the same source.

Al-Sheikh did not clarify the conditions and conditions for excluding teachers, or “intellectual violations” that require the penalty of administrative expulsion, which sparked controversy and widespread criticism in the country.

Saudi activists, through social media platforms, said that the decision may open a door for malicious claims and settling personal accounts between education administrators and teachers.

The decision is an extension of the decision taken by the Saudi Minister of Education last February to dismiss the Dean of the College of Sharia in Riyadh from his position because of what the local media reported at the time to “host violators of thought.”
