A Saudi national is set to spend a year behind bars and pay a hefty SR100,000 fine after violating the Anti-Cyber Crime Law, as declared by the Public Prosecution.

According to an official statement on X platform, the Cybercrimes Prosecution concluded its investigations, charging the citizen with the offense of spreading rumors through his personal social media account, a direct breach of the Anti-Cybercrimes Law.

The individual in question misled the public by casting doubt on the efficacy and safety of a medically approved preparation endorsed by competent authorities. False and inaccurate information was disseminated through the accused's social media accounts, leading to the legal action taken.

The Public Prosecution emphasized the importance of maintaining security and information safety in cyberspace. It underlined that any individual engaging in behavior deemed criminal against society will be held criminally accountable.

In a swift response to the violation, the citizen was apprehended, brought before the competent court, and subsequently convicted. The court handed down a sentence of one year imprisonment and imposed a SR100,000 fine.
