Authorities in the Abu Arish governorate of Jizan Province, southwestern Saudi Arabia, have shut down two fast-food restaurants following a mass food poisoning incident. Over 100 people reportedly fell ill after consuming meals from these establishments, as reported by a Saudi news portal.
Swift Medical Response
The affected individuals were swiftly transferred to a government-run hospital in Abu Arish. According to Sabq, all patients received complete healthcare and have since been discharged. Official figures regarding the number of cases have not yet been released.
Official Investigation Launched
Jizan Governor Prince Mohammed bin Nasser has ordered the formation of an urgent committee to investigate the incident. He also directed intensified inspections of restaurants and food stores across the province to prevent similar occurrences.
Recent Similar Incidents
This incident marks the second major food poisoning case in Saudi Arabia within two months. In late April, 75 people were hospitalized due to food poisoning at a restaurant in Riyadh, resulting in one death. The Riyadh mayoralty traced the poisoning to a specific food establishment, leading to the closure of its main supply facility and all branches in Riyadh and Al Kharj.
