In a significant move, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) in Saudi Arabia is set to launch insurance coverage for new domestic workers arriving for the first time through the Musaned platform. Commencing from February 1, 2024, the "Insurance on Domestic Worker Contracts" service will play a crucial role in safeguarding both employers and domestic workers.

The insurance coverage will extend for the initial two years of the contract, integrated into the procedures between the employer and the recruitment office or company. After the initial two years, employers have the option to either extend or cancel the insurance coverage.

Exclusive to Musaned clients, the insurance service has garnered significant attention since its introduction at the beginning of 2023. Over 175,000 clients have opted for insurance coverage for their domestic help, attesting to the positive interaction and feedback from customers and contractual parties.

The comprehensive insurance service provides compensation in various circumstances, beginning from the commencement of the domestic worker's duties. It covers scenarios such as the worker's failure to attend duty, absconding (huroob), death, disability, or chronic illnesses hindering duty performance. Employers are also entitled to compensation for repatriation expenses in case of the domestic worker's demise.

The insurance service is designed to protect the rights of both employers and domestic workers. It ensures compensation for total permanent disability or permanent partial disability resulting from accidents. Additionally, it compensates workers in the event of the employer's death or permanent disability, safeguarding their financial dues.

Aligned with the ministry's commitment to developing the recruitment sector and protecting the rights of domestic workers and employers, the insurance service complements initiatives such as the Wage Protection Program for Domestic Workers. The Unified Contract Program for the Recruitment of Domestic Workers emphasizes a standardized contract that preserves rights and outlines obligations for both parties.

The Musaned platform, launched by the MHRSD, stands as a pivotal initiative to enhance the recruitment sector in the Kingdom. Offering multiple services to streamline the recruitment journey and address disputes, Musaned ensures the rights of contracting parties are guaranteed and facilitates a fair and transparent process.
