A feasibility study that examined the social, economic, technical, and financial aspects of building a new railway link between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to carry goods and passengers has been approved by the two countries' Project Management Committee.
The project for "initial design" will be launched soon after the required procedures are finished. According to a government source, multinational companies are invited to contribute at this point.
The project's actual implementation, according to the source, will start in 2026. Problems are being addressed by regular site inspections, talks, and mutual trips between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to discuss upcoming works.
High-Speed Rail Transport
According to the source, the railway is projected to transport 3,300 passengers each day on six return journeys, completing around 500 kilometers in just over an hour and forty minutes at high speed.
Affordable train tickets will put the two nations in direct competition with air and road travel in terms of price and convenience.
Economic and Social Impact
The importance of this project, which will improve long-term train connections, trade, and economic integration, was highlighted once again by the source.
Although the source clarified that the Gulf connection project and the Kuwaiti-Saudi link are distinct, they did say that the railway will run from the Shaddadiyah area all the way to Riyadh.
It is expected that the project will be finished within four years, as stated in the plan. Efforts to deepen commercial ties and build on long-standing historical ties between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are the driving forces behind this project.
Government Support and Progress Monitoring
The Ministry of Works and all other relevant parties have been instructed by the Council of Ministers to speed up the project and provide periodic updates on its progress.
