In a significant regulatory update, smart taxi drivers in Saudi Arabia now face a substantial fine of SR4000 for canceling a trip after accepting a customer's request. These changes are part of recent amendments to the regulations governing the activities of smart taxis, taxi brokers, and guided vehicles linked to the Shomos Security System, under the National Information Center of the Ministry of Interior.

Here are the key highlights of these amendments:

1. Stricter Cancellation Penalties: Smart taxi drivers now risk a hefty SR4000 fine if they cancel a trip after accepting it. This measure aims to reduce the occurrence of drivers accepting trips only to cancel them later, inconveniencing passengers.

2. License Transfer: Drivers now have the option to transfer their smart taxi licenses from one city to another with approval from the Transport General Authority (TGA). This flexibility provides more opportunities for drivers to operate across different cities.

3. Vehicle Registration: The amendments exempt vehicles registered with the licensees from the requirement of being brand new and not previously registered inside or outside the Kingdom. This change expands the pool of vehicles available for smart taxi services.

4. Provider Accountability: Providers of approved technical systems must ensure the timely supply of required data to drivers. Failure to do so may result in fines of SR5000. Continuous link maintenance to the technical systems is also mandatory, with the same SR5000 penalty for non-compliance.

These amendments were introduced to address challenges faced by investors, beneficiaries, and workers in the smart taxi, taxi broker, and guided vehicle activities. The goal is to enhance the overall experience for all stakeholders, reduce costs for investors, streamline procedures, and create better investment opportunities in these industries.
