More Than 6 Million Umrah Permits Were Issued During Ramadan
Category: Ramadan

According to the Hajj and Umrah Ministry, 6.6 million permits were issued for Muslims to perform umrah at the Grand Mosque in Mecca during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan, which ended on Sunday, is usually the peak season for umrah rituals and visits to the Prophet Mohammed's Mosque in Medina.

Islam's holiest site, the Grand Mosque, does not require a permit for prayers, but an official permit is still required for umrah.

144,736 permits were issued during the lunar month for Muslim men and 116,045 for women to visit Al Rawdah Al Sharifa, the place where the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, is buried at his mosque in Medina.

During Ramadan, Saudi Arabia has seen a surge of pilgrims.

Following a largely relaxing of restrictions against COVID-19, the kingdom has recently relaxed measures for performing umrah.

A number of precautionary measures have been lifted, including the cancellation of permits to pray at the Grand Mosque and Prophet's Mohammed Mosque.

According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the immunization check to enter both holy sites has been eliminated for all worshippers.
