In a significant development, the Economic Crimes Prosecution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has wrapped up its investigation into a criminal organization comprising 23 Asian expats, suspected of money laundering. The Public Prosecution of Saudi Arabia has confirmed this crucial update.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the accused individuals, who entered Saudi Arabia on visit visas, were carrying a staggering sum of more than 4 million riyals in cash. They had discreetly distributed the money amongst themselves and attempted to leave the country via a truck at one of the land ports, intending to conceal it from authorities.
The accused have been referred to the appropriate court to face the charges brought against them. Out of the 23 individuals, 16 have been sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment, coupled with a hefty fine of 7 million riyals each.
For the remaining defendants, their prison terms vary from 4 to 8 years, accompanied by different financial penalties. The evidence presented during the trial led to their conviction, and the verdict mandates deportation to their home countries after serving their prison sentences. Additionally, the confiscated money has been seized.
