The Ministry of the Interior published a video clip explaining the punishment of those who broadcast rumors about the emerging coronavirus pandemic, through social media platforms and applications, or circulating them or publishing false information that could cause panic, or who incites to violate the relevant procedures and measures.

The Ministry of the Interior said: “The perpetrator of these violations is punished by imposing a fine of no less than 100 thousand riyals and not more than one million riyals, or imprisonment for a period of not less than one year and not exceeding five years, or the fine and imprisonment together, and when repeating the violation, the punishment doubled last time”.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that if the aforementioned violation had been issued against a non-Saudi individual, it would be punished by deportation from the Kingdom and preventing its entry permanently, after the implementation of the punishment imposed on him, bearing in mind that the application of the stipulated penalties does not prejudice any other punishment prescribed by Sharia or system.
