Observatory of the University of Majmaa astronomer in Hotat Sudair, is preparing to monitor the crescent of the month of Shawwal 1441 AH, according to the calendar of Umm Al-Qura; Where the Observatory explained in a statement the scientific conditions for seeing the crescent.
He stated in the statement issued by the astronomical observatory that after completing the scientific calculations for Friday 29 Ramadan 1441 AH corresponding to May 22, 2020 AD according to the Umm Al-Qura calendar; According to the mathematical data, the sun will set at 6:39 at 293 degrees, and the moon will set at 6:26, i.e. 13 minutes before the sun .. On Saturday, 30 Ramadan 1441 AH, corresponding to May 23, 2020 AD; The sun will set at 6:40 at 293 degrees, and the crescent will set at 7:23 at 293 degrees, meaning that the crescent will stay 43 minutes after sunset at an altitude of 8.84 and elongate 10.60.
It is worth noting that the Astronomical Observatory at Majmaah University was established on the land of the city of Hawtat Sudair by a decision of the university president Where his intention was to form a specialized scientific founding committee based on setting a comprehensive vision for the observatory, taking into account the scientific, administrative and technical aspects that relate to the trends of the world of astronomical observatories (local and international), which was demonstrated by its impact on the goals that were summarized in the service of the local community through the publication Astronomical culture; To be a civilized and cultural façade, to achieve global national leadership in the astronomical field and its research, to serve the legitimate aspects of astronomy, to find a global scientific partner, and to contract with it; To lay down the requirements for telescopes, the astronomical dome, and the general needs of the Permanent Observatory in terms of science .. From these and other goals, the Observatory was created.
The vision of the observatory was to simulate the global experiences of the global observatories. At the opening of the observatory, the university was keen to host and attend a Japanese scientific delegation; To exchange technical and scientific experiences in this delicate science, the contents of the observatory varied between an astronomical refractor with an electronic holder (CCD) to monitor the celestial bodies, and two celestial domes equipped with astronomical films dubbed in both Arabic and English.
All visitors praised the permanent educational astronomical exhibition; Where it represents a variety of astronomical and educational experience that benefits the majority of students and students of the various educational levels, university and pre-university, and members of society.
The observatory is receiving great attention from the university and the community leaders, and to ensure the implementation of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Corona virus, medical services and the Medical College will participate in an ambulance with its entire crew; To ensure the safety of the participants in the monitoring process in accordance with the procedures followed to detect the new corona disease.
