India to start repatriating thousands of its citizens stranded abroad from 7th May 2020 announced the Indian government, The operations are expected to start from Gulf countries where 70% of NRIs (Non Resident Indians) live.
About 1,900,000 people to evacuate in the first phase, It is expected to start from United Arab Emirates (UAE) which is home to 3.4 million Indians, followed by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. However, the sources said the facility would be available on a payment basis.
- According to the Indian government Press Information Bureau, India will be facilitating the return of Indian nationals stranded abroad on compelling grounds in a phased manner.
- The traveling of the repatriated Indians would be arranged by the aircraft and naval ships, Medical screening will be done for all before taking the flight. Passengers without any symptoms of Coronavirus only to travel during the journey.
- On reaching home country, everyone have to register on Arogya Setu app, All will be quarantined for 14 days either in a hospital or in institutional on payment basis, by the concerned state government.
- Indian Embassies and High commissions has started preparing a list of distressed citizens, Priority would be given to blue-collar workers, especially those facing health problems or eligible on any humanitarian grounds.
- The first 2 flights are expected to fly to Kerala from UAE as the state government is well prepared to accommodate about 200,000 people at quarantine centres and hospitals.
