Local media reported that Saudi Arabia thwarted an attempt to smuggle around 15 million amphetamine tablets through Jeddah Islamic Port.
In a commercial consignment coming from overseas, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) discovered 14,976,000 tablets hidden inside.
According to the investigation, the smuggled quantity was hidden in a concrete block-making machine.
Therefore, the ZTCA alerted the security forces, who arrested the lone benefactor after tracking down his address.
Captagon seizures are regularly announced by Saudi Arabia. Drugs usually originate in Syria and transit through Lebanon as fruit and vegetables.
A total of 119 million pills were seized by the kingdom's customs authority last year, and trafficking of the drug has continued to rise in 2022.
Captagon, which derives its name from a once-legal narcolepsy drug, is mostly produced in Syria and Lebanon and smuggled to the Gulf region.
