Several airplanes have been involved in accidents at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) this year, including a Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) flight leaving Riyadh.
Nimfa Ravelo reported in dzBB's Super Radyo that the Boeing 777-368 aircraft with flight number SV862 landed in Manila at 1:47 p.m. while on its way to NAIA Terminal 1.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said in its incident report that six of the plane's right landing gears went off the pavement onto the grassy portion at the end of the taxiway, causing its wheels to get stuck.
There were no injuries among the 420 passengers and crew. As soon as they left the site, they were shuttled to Terminal 1 where their baggage was collected.
The plane skidded off the runway leading to the terminal after landing safely at Ninoy Aqino International airport, according to Saudia.
Saudi Arabian Airlines said in a statement that "the aircraft is now at the terminal gate and undergoing technical evaluation by the concerned authorities to ensure the maximum level of safety."
The recovery operations were overseen by airport officials, including MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco.
The aircraft has been recovered and is now positioned on the paved portion of the taxiway and is being prepared for towing.
He assured the public that the situation is now under control and the recovery operations are being conducted according to international standards.
