In a significant move to enhance the business and legal environment in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Justice has granted licenses to 15 foreign law companies to practice law in the Kingdom. This transformative step is designed to not only improve the investment climate but also enhance the efficiency and stature of the legal profession in the country.

The Ministry of Justice disclosed that these licenses have been issued to companies hailing from nations such as the United States and the United Kingdom. This development is a part of a broader initiative to encourage foreign investment and foster a more favorable business environment.

What's more, the authorities are currently reviewing an additional 15 applications from foreign law firms interested in practicing law in Saudi Arabia. This influx of international legal expertise promises to have a significant impact on the Kingdom's legal landscape.

It's worth noting that this groundbreaking decision was first implemented in March of this year, when the Ministry issued its inaugural licenses to three foreign law companies. Dr. Walid Al-Samaani, the Minister of Justice, and Eng. Khalid Al-Falih, the Minister of Investment, granted these licenses during the International Conference on Justice held in Riyadh.

The law companies that were bestowed with these pioneering licenses include Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, Latham and Watkins LLP, and Clifford Chance LLP. These licenses are the first of their kind issued to foreign law companies since the Council of Ministers altered the Code of Law Practice's licensing rules.

In January of this year, the Ministry of Justice introduced a user-friendly system for foreign law companies to apply for licenses. They can now utilize Najiz.sa, the Ministry's electronic platform for legal services, to initiate their applications.

The process is straightforward. Interested parties simply need to visit Najiz.sa and select the "Apply for law practice license (for foreign law firms)" option. They can then complete the service-specific forms and attach the required documents as specified by the Ministry.

This momentous decision to open the legal field to foreign expertise is set to have a lasting impact on the Kingdom's legal and business landscape, making it more accessible and attractive to international investors and businesses.
