In a major anti-corruption effort, Saudi Arabia has detained a total of 121 government officials following investigations led by the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha). These cases, which spanned multiple government bodies, highlight an intensified crackdown on corruption within the country.
Agencies Involved in the Investigation
The corruption cases investigated in October involved five government agencies:
- Ministry of Interior
- Ministry of Justice
- National Guard
- Ministry of Municipalities and Housing
- Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority
Focus on Bribery and Abuse of Power
According to a statement from Nazaha, the investigations centered on cases of bribery and abuse of power. A total of 322 suspects were questioned, and some were released on bail following further investigation. This reflects Saudi Arabia's continued efforts to ensure accountability and transparency within its government sectors.
Anti-Corruption Efforts by Nazaha
In October alone, Nazaha conducted approximately 1,903 oversight rounds. The authority reinforced its commitment to addressing and preventing corruption, warning that violators of public trust would face legal consequences without leniency. These efforts are part of an ongoing initiative to maintain public trust and integrity across government institutions.
